During nights up with small sick children, I think most often about the terror of diphtheria, a bacteria which causes a thick covering of pus and mucous membrane to the throat and killed children in the millions. This death was horrific—parents watched their children die while fully conscious of suffocation secondary to sloughing debris in their small airways.

The staff at POD looks forward to Spring Break every year. In years past, this generally marks the end to the cold and flu season! (We're not so sure this year.) But with half the doctors out of town, it was time for the staff to have some fun! If you were here for a visit, you might have seen a super hero, a Disney character or two, and a hula hoop contest. With the relaxed atmosphere, it was a much needed break for the staff.

In 2002 a few employees and their families were dealing with some serious health issues. It was then that a small group formed hoping to make a difference and raise money for charitable organizations. Over the years we've participated in many events including Light the Night Walk, the Walk MS, and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at North Park.

It’s a tradition at POD to celebrate Halloween. You never know who you may see at the office. In 2008, the managers dressed up as a different Lucy from “I Love Lucy.” Every time you turned around, there she was! In 2009, the managers dressed up as Sandy and the Pink Ladies from Grease. The Large Chicken beat them out in the annual costume contest.
